Hitting the single-track en route to his best ever race. His start wasn't as good as it could be because of a problem with his front derailleur so he hit the trailhead in fourth, but (like last year) made his infamous passes at the very narrow road crossings where he would stay as close on the rider's wheel as he could until the trail opened up and then he would surprise the rider by sprinting around and diving back into the trail on the other side of the road... that bold move always elicits cheers from the spectators!
