Hard-earned third!
Kees missed amost two weeks of practice and also missed one meet, so with only one week of throwing and one meet under his belt (on the advice of his coach he did not throw between the Junior Olympics last summer and summer track this year) he was way behind the others practice-wise and knew this meet was going to be tough.
In the first round he had the farthest throw by far but by the third round he was bumped down to third by two kids he regularly outthrew last year. In the last round only needed about 11 inches to beat them... normally not a problem... but with as long as he'd been away from the discus he knew it would be tough...

His form looked good... as did his release... but in discus everything has to work together perfectly and if it doesn't you don't get the distance.
Considering his time off he did extremely well... with no throwing or practice in-between, he outhrew his distance from the first meet and finished a close third in this meet... third, however, is also the worst he's ever done in a meet!
Unfortunately he'll miss practice this week as well, so qualifying for the Junior Olympics next weekend is going to be tough, if not impossible, for him!
