Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" opens July 7, 2006 so I thought I'd post a cool shot of a group of Volvo Open 70's including the one sponsored by the Disney movie. I raced Olympic-class sailboats for twenty-five years so boats like these still captivate me. By the way, if you haven't seen the original movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl" buy it, because in true Disney style it's a movie that 7 to 70-year olds will enjoy.

It doesn't take two smart people to produce a smart child.
My children go to a school for gifted and talented children, and about once a month I'm reminded that it doesn't take two smart people to produce a smart child.
Parents usually enter the long and narrow parking lot in front of the school and drive all the way up and pull to the right to drop off their child. The cars leaving pull to the left side of the parking lot and drive out. It all flows very smoothly and safely. Every once in a while, though, a parent enters the parking lot and just stops in the middle to drop off their child, obstructing the cars trying to leave the lot and forcing the cars trying to enter the lot into a long line out into the busy street.
THAT parent is obviously not the smart one ;-)

The spring mountain bike racing season is upon us and we haven't ridden our mountain bikes since May '05 so it was time to take them out for a ride. Since we have no mountains (or even hills for that matter) we do what we call urban mountain biking. Here's a little descending practice down stairs at the university.

The Harlem Globetrotters.
Went to go see the Harlem Globetrotters (and lucked-out with front row seats!) ... there's no Meadowlark Lemon or Curly Neal anymore but the team is still up to it's hilarious antics. Here's the present-day Meadowlark Lemon, Michael "Wild Thing" Wilson gettin' some air.
Lemmings
Champagne (or Gold, or Tan, or Sand or whatever Chevrolet calls that color) Suburbans... geez, how many of these things are out there?! They're not just the Junior-League and Soccer-Mom official vehicles, it seems like everyone has one here. Today I called a friend of mine to get back my bike workstand and he told me to go to the YMCA parking lot at noon and he'd leave the car unlocked. Well... the parking lot isn't very big and wouldn't you know that there were eight of the damn things there... it took me ten minutes to find which one was his! My sister has four boys so she has one out of necessity, but it's white and she puts black magnetic cow-spots (for lack of a better term) all over it and it looks like a huge cow... now that's cool ;-)

Tour de France: Col del la Madeline
Photoshopped version of a picture that I took of the kids on the Col de la Madeline during stage 11 of the 2005 Tour de France and I think it turned out pretty cool. For more about our adventures in France and Europe see our IronDad and IronKids Excellent Adventures for 2004 and 2005 blog!
