Wild, wild, west!

You know you're out in the wild, wild, west when the speed limit goes up to 75 and they want to raise it to 80! 

Greek Day

Today was Greek Day at school... it's sort of an end-of-year tradition for "graduating" 5th graders.

On top of all the fun and festivities they each research and make presentations on Greek culture and traditions, have a school parade, produce "ancient" Greek commercials with claymation, have a Greek dancing festival and end it all with a Greek Feast!

Man... when I was a kid we just did boring stuff at school :-( 

Gaea, or Mother Earth, was the great goddess of the early Greeks. She represented the Earth and was worshipped as the universal mother. In Greek mythology, she created the Universe and gave birth to both the first race of gods (the Titans) and the first humans. 

Final Game

Final game of the season... the White Sox ended up in third place. Not bad for a young team! 

For Oma

My son will be playing Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring for his piano recital in two weeks.

When I told him that it was my mother's favorite piece and that she would often play it by heart on the piano (she died before my children were born), he said:

"Maybe I can stand up and dedicate it to Oma before I play it"

I'm sure she smiled somewhere up there in heaven...

Biome Day

My son's third-grade had Biome Day, and his class chose the tundra (hence the parka, gloves and boots). Each child had something from the tundra that they had to research and then draw a card depicting it and make a brief presentation before the school.

What cracked me up is that each child wrote their presentation on the back of the card, so when they made their presentation this is what you saw :-)
